SA Water has entered into a contract with United Utilities Australia which will finance, design, construct and operate for 20 years. A new wastewater treatment plant for the town of Victor Harbor on the Fleurieu Peninsula, south of Adelaide is now complete and fully operational.

Project capital cost, including land acquisition and other costs met by SA Water, is approximately $40 million. The new plant is at the forefront in Australia for the application of immersed membrane bioreactor technology in municipal wastewater treatment. This technology can remove micro-organisms down to the size of viruses and Phosphorus discharge will be reduced by 99% compared with the discharge from the existing plant, which was commissioned in 1972.
