Environmental Policy
United Utilities Australia Pty Ltd is committed to safeguarding and improving, in a sustainable way, the public health and the environment of the communities we serve and in which we operate throughout Australia.
Safeguarding the environment is an integral and fundamental part of our business strategy and culture.
We aim to achieve continuous improvement in environmental management, and recognise our obligation to inform all stakeholders of our policies, practices and performance in environmental matters.
It is the express policy of United Utilities Australia:
- Comply with all relevant national and local statutory environmental obligations, and work closely and constructively with regulating agencies, community interest groups and other institutions concerned with environmental issues;
- Meet (or exceed) all of our contractual obligations relating to the environment, including the conservation and protection of the natural environment where appropriate;
- Conduct our operations and other corporate activities in a way which minimizes their impact on the environment and is efficient in the use of energy, chemicals, vehicles and other resources;
- Monitor, review, report on and continuously improve our environmental performance as measured against key defined environmental performance indicators and targets;
- Maintain an accredited company-wide Environmental Management System to AS / NZS ISO 14001:2004 standard for all existing (and future) projects and business activities, including the setting and review of environmental objectives and targets;
- Adopt sustainable waste management practices at all company sites, including source reduction, recycling and safe disposal of waste materials;
- Communicate with, and provide appropriate information to our stakeholders in relation to our environmental policy, EMS and environmental performance;
- Promote environmental awareness and education of our staff through specific training programs and other initiatives;
- Reduce or offset the carbon ‘footprint’ of our operations and other business activities where this is achievable and affordable;
- Ensure that one of our key criteria in selecting business partners and suppliers of goods and services is their demonstrable commitment to the principles embodied in UUA’s environmental policy
Responsibilities
Ultimate responsibility for executing this policy rests with the Managing Director.
Communication of the policy
The latest revision of this policy will be displayed on principal noticeboards at all UUA sites, and otherwise brought to the attention of all employees. It will also be communicated to stakeholders, business partners, and with those with whom we seek to work, as well as being made available to the public on request.
