UU Consortium Preferred Bidder for Adelaide's Desalination Project

United Utilities Australia is part of the AdelaideAqua consortium which as been named by SA Water as the preferred bidder for the construction and operation of Adelaide’s $1.37 billion desalination plant.

The consortium also comprises Spanish firm Acciona Agua, McConnell Dowell and Abigroup Contractors. United Utilities has a joint venture in Australia with Acciona Agua.

Design and construction of the 50 – gigalitre plant will be undertaken by Acciona Agua. McConnell Dowell AbiGroup. Acciona Agua and UUA will jointly operate and maintain the facility for 20 years.

The plant will provide Adelaide with one quarter of its annual water use and will be powered using sustainable energy sources. It will be constructed to an extremely tight schedule which requires the delivery of first water by December 2010.
