From July 1, 2003 United Utilities Australia will be involved in the country’s most encompassing water outsourcing contract following the signing of an agreement with Victorian regional authority Coliban Water.
Under a 10 year contract, commencing on that date, Campaspe Asset Management (CAMS), an equal joint venture between United Utilities and Origin Energy Asset Management, will carry out field services, water and wastewater treatment, IT, revenue, operations and maintenance, technical and laboratory services. The term may be extended for a further five years. The joint venture will also participate in developing Coliban Water’s capital works program throughout the contract period.
United Utilities Australia is a wholly owned subsidiary of the UK multi-utility company United Utilities PLC and has operations in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia. Origin Energy Asset Management, part of Origin Energy, provides operational and management services to a wide range of industries including managing more than 18,000km of natural gas networks over 880,000 homes and businesses throughout Australia including Adelaide.

Centred on the old gold mining towns of Bendigo and Castlemaine, Coliban Water provides water and wastewater services to 130,000 customers across 16,500 square km of central and northern Victoria. Its asset include 1800km of water mains, 1100km of sewer mains, 490 km or rural channels, 70km of main channel, eight major and 79 minor water storages including tanks, basins, and reservoirs, 22 water treatment plants, 10 wastewater treatment plants and 174 water and wastewater pumping stations.
